Hello, my name is Kiana Wiley (she/hers) and I’m a pre-licensed therapist (AMFT) from San Diego. I identify myself as an affirmative, client-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive therapist who tailors therapy to meet the client needs.
I love working with...
I am passionate about working with children 10 and older, parents, and transitional-aged adults (18-24) from diverse backgrounds; and focusing on folks from underrepresented communities. My areas of expertise include but aren’t limited to: PTSD, life transitions, grief, self esteem, depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship conflict
Some of my favorite approaches include...
I utilize a balance of traditional with person-centered therapies. This may include CBT, TF-CBT, Bowenian, DBT, ACT (accepting thoughts and living according to values), Play Therapy, and Art Therapy techniques. My goal is creating a space you feel seen, heard, respected, and valued where you can be the expert on your experiences and allow me to guide you through this process. Therapy is challenging work and I commend you for taking this first step toward your healing.
How I help...
My communication style is conversational, compassionate and humorous when appropriate. This approach may include at times exploring unhelpful thinking patterns to help you gain insight and tools to improve overall quality of life. We may also work through challenges with activities and experiences hands on in therapy, such as art, play, or role plays.
I believe...
...it’s important to allow clients to guide the exploration at their own pace and for the therapist to meet them where they’re at.
What it's like in session with me
In the first sessions with me we will talk about intake items, what brought you in, how you are feeling, and what you are hoping to receive from our time together. We will discuss any concerns and questions you might have while getting to know each other. I encourage the client to reflect on if they are comfortable and if we are a good fit to go on the therapeutic journey.
