Understanding our inner world teaches us how to trust ourselves in the moments we can't control.
Hello, I’m Elyssa Becerra (she/her), and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I approach therapy through a blend of curiosity, neuroscience, and systems thinking. I am committed to helping people understand the relationship between their mind, body (nervous system), and internal emotional world. My work is grounded in cultural humility, developmental understanding, and the belief that every person has an inner wisdom that becomes clearer when we slow down and listen.
I love working with...
I love working with emerging adults 17-22, adults, and families who are navigating identity development, emotional regulation, neurodivergence, anxiety, relational stress, and complex or intergenerational family systems. I am particularly drawn to supporting individuals who are learning to differentiate their own voice, understand their emotional patterns, and build healthier internal and relational boundaries.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
My approach integrates neuroscience, somatic awareness, Internal Family Systems, polyvagal theory, and CBT/DBT tools. I work from a systems lens, considering the interconnectedness of family, culture, environment, and the nervous system. I value approaches that create clarity, help people understand their internal parts and protective patterns, and support the development of emotional regulation and self-trust. My style is collaborative, culturally aware, and grounded in the belief that growth happens through insight, safety, and intentional work.
How I help...
I help by creating a thoughtful, grounded space where we can explore the stories you’ve carried and the meanings you’ve made to feel safe. My focus is on helping you understand the connections between your mind, brain, and body so you can make sense of your emotional patterns with clarity and compassion. We look at the beliefs, experiences, and protective responses that have shaped you, and we begin to piece together what consistently shows up in your life. This work is collaborative and paced in a way that respects your readiness and autonomy. I hold therapeutic change as something that grows from clarity, when you can see your inner landscape more clearly, you have more choice. And when you have choice, real change becomes possible.
My role is to offer guidance, insight, and steady support; your role is to decide what direction feels right for you, whether that’s reflection, processing, change, or simply gaining insight. Whatever path you choose, it’s met with respect and unconditional positive regard.
I believe...
...healing is a process of understanding rather than forcing change. When we can understand what we carry and why, we gain the clarity to make choices that align with who we want to become. When we learn the language of our inner world, our outer world finally makes sense.
What it's like in session with me
Sessions with me are steady, collaborative, and centered on curiosity. Early on, we keep things loosely structured so we can understand what you’re carrying and what feels most present. From there, we begin making sense of your internal world by exploring the connections between your thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and nervous system patterns. When emotions become activated, we slow down and work through them together. I check in often, offer grounding when needed, and help you stay oriented so the process feels manageable rather than overwhelming. You decide the pace and depth of the work; I support you in exploring, reflecting, and making meaningful connections. My intention is to create a space that feels safe, clear, and respectful, a space where insight can grow naturally and where you can explore your inner world with trust, choice, and steadiness.
