Hello, I'm Shannon (she/her/hers) and I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker. I enjoy getting to know people on an individual level and who they are in their community. My individual self is a reader with her two cats and dog, and my community self is a circus enthusiast. Both are important components of who I am and I look forward to learning others' different components!
I love working with...
Individuals, couples, and families who are ready to make changes. Trauma is a tricky, tumultuous beast and every person deals with that trauma in a unique way. I am passionate about helping individuals face their trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions, and any other obstacles trying to hold them back from growing.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
My primary approach is client-centered, trauma-informed care. With building the relationship and supporting the growth of the client, I employ motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and play therapy.
How I help...
Each person is different and each relationship is different. Coming into a session with me, you will never be another number; stepping into the room is a moment of vulnerability and bravery, and I cherish that trust. Compassion, empathy, and supportive. I will always offer support and never judgment. Your time and trust is sacred and I will never take it for granted.
I believe...
the client knows themselves best - but sometimes they need some guidance to discover who they are and develop their own voice. This is your mountain to climb, I am just hear to give you the tools.
What it's like in session with me
The therapeutic space is your space; whether that means gentle music, a game of cards, or silence to take a breath, it is your place of safety and comfort. The therapeutic relationship is one built on trust and respect; trust is not freely given and I will offer unconditional support to demonstrate that your trust is safe with me. I will also challenge you because how else do we grow? Know that my challenging you comes from a place of my trust in you and your capabilities - not a place of judgment. The session is your space and we will make of it whatever you want it to be.
