Hi, I’m Aliyah Taylor, an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC). I understand that starting therapy and finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself, sharing what’s on your mind, and exploring the things that have been difficult to navigate on your own. I bring a warm, conversational, and collaborative approach to therapy. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We can take the time to understand what you’re experiencing and what you would like to get out of therapy together.
I love working with...
I especially enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients and people navigating anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and major life changes.Maybe you spend a lot of time overthinking, worrying about how others see you, or being harder on yourself than you would ever be on someone else. You may feel overwhelmed by everything expected of you, disconnected from yourself, or simply stuck in patterns you’re ready to understand and change. You don’t need to wait until things become unbearable to come to therapy. Sometimes, you just know that the way things have been going isn’t working for you anymore, even if you’re not sure what needs to change yet. We can start there.
Some of my favorite approaches include...
I draw from several approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Play Therapy, and PCIT-informed approaches.I also believe therapy should make sense within the context of your life. Your culture, identity, family, relationships, community, and lived experiences can all shape how you see yourself and the challenges you’re facing. Rather than assuming there is one “right” way to cope, communicate, set boundaries, or move through life, I want us to explore what works for you while respecting the values and experiences that are important to you.Depending on what brings you to therapy, we might work on understanding difficult emotions, developing practical coping skills, identifying patterns that leave you feeling stuck, or exploring the messages and expectations you’ve received about who you are or who you’re supposed to be.When working with children and families, I may also use play and parent-child strategies that consider the child’s age, family relationships, culture, and individual needs. Most importantly, I want therapy to feel collaborative. I’ll bring my knowledge and tools into the room, but you bring the expertise on your own life. Together, we can figure out what feels useful, realistic, and meaningful for you.
How I help...
I don’t see my role as telling you what to do or making decisions for you. I see therapy as something we do together.I’ll listen, ask questions, help you make connections, and offer another perspective when it may be helpful. We can explore why certain situations affect you the way they do, recognize patterns that may no longer be working for you, and develop practical ways to handle difficult thoughts, emotions, relationships, and everyday stress. My hope is that over time, you leave therapy not only feeling better, but also understanding yourself better and feeling more confident navigating challenges on your own.
I believe...
...you deserve a space where all parts of who you are are welcome, and where you can be honest about how you’re doing without feeling like you need to have everything figured out.
What it's like in session with me
Our first few sessions are about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what life has been like lately, what has been difficult, and what you’d like to be different. You don’t need to come prepared with all the answers. We can start wherever you are.As we continue working together, some sessions may involve talking through something that happened during your week, while others may focus on understanding your emotions, exploring patterns in your thoughts or relationships, practicing new ways to cope, or working toward a specific goal. You can expect me to be warm, supportive, and engaged in our conversations. I want you to feel heard and understood, but I also want our time together to be useful. We’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable while continuing to move toward the things that matter to you.
